Sixth person charged over alleged murder of Sydney man at unit block in 2019juillet 1, 2020
A sixth person has been charged over the alleged murder of a Sydney man at a unit block at the end of 2019.
NSW Police were called to the unit on Mia Street in Girraween, in the city’s west, about 4pm on December 30 following reports of a fight between a group of men.
Officers found a man — who was formally identified in April as 42-year-old Vergel Velasquez — with severe head injuries in the stairwell of the unit complex.
Mr Velasquez was treated at the scene and taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition, where he died about 5.20pm on New Year’s Eve.
An investigation into his death saw multiple search warrants executed at homes in Granville and Moree earlier this year.
So far during the investigation, five men – aged 39, 41, 42, 49 and 50 – have been charged. They all remain before the courts.
Following further inquiries, strike force officers arrested a 35-year-old woman at a unit at Kingsford about 1.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 30 June 2020).
She was taken to Maroubra Police Station and charged with murder.
The Guilford woman was refused bail to appear at Waverley Local Court today.
