Water cannons used by police on Thailand protesters in Bangkok

Thai police have fired chemical-laced water cannon on thousands of pro-democracy protesters who gathered in Bangkok on Friday to call for the release of dozens of recently-jailed activists. The protest was part of a pro-democracy movement that has been organizing rallies in the kingdom for months. It came as two men received unusually-harsh charges for allegedly committing ‘violence against the queen’ by heckling her motorcade. The king and queen put on a brave face on Thursday, attending a graduation ceremony amid the unrest.
