Capitol fallout: Huge National Guard presence in Washington DC ahead of Biden inauguration

National Guard troops hunkered down at the Capitol Wednesday night following a historic vote that impeached Donald Trump for the second time in his presidency. Camouflage-clad troops were seen resting in the Capitol Visitors Center in between rounds of the grounds on Wednesday. A total of 20,000 National Guardsman have now been authorized to descend on Washington to help safeguard the capital ahead of Biden’s inauguration. Wednesday night workers were seen setting up additional barricades around the Capitol and White House. Businesses in Washington DC were boarded up and a non-scalable fence was erected outside the Trump hotel, a few blocks from the White House, as the capital braces for more protests.
